Pat Mattison
Bass Guitar and Backing Vocals
 |
Pat comes from a family of musicians and music lovers,
especially on the Irish side. It seemed like everyone played
piano. "I loved all kinds of music growing up, from
surf music to British invasion bands. The Beatles changed
my life! What really hooked me was the 3 minute pop song.
Anyone who can tell a great story in 3 minutes and keep
you coming back to hear it over and over again is a genius!
Guys like Roger Miller, Johnny Cash or some of the folk
singers.

Around 1965 I had the good fortune to have a guitar teacher
show me the basic chords to a bunch of folk songs and how to strum
them. Songs that I almost remember the words to, like Greenback
Dollar, Streets of Laredo and The Cat Came Back! But the catch
in the lesson was that I had to sing the song and accompany myself!
That firmly instilled the purpose of playing in me. Music was
all about having something to say.
Pat has played bass in several southern California bands over
the years and most recently in the popular Americana band "Kaedmon"
(sometimes described as Celtic Country) who have performed all
around California and Austin, TX. www.kaedmon.com. Kaedmon has
performed many live radio shows. "I love playing with MARSHALLTOWN.
They're all great musicians and the songs are the best. I like
being able to rock it up a little too with the up tempo numbers."
Pat plays guitar, upright bass and bass guitar.
